Guatemala Scholarships

Help us make a difference by sponsoring a scholarship!

TheGuatemala
Scholarship Fund

In 2000, RPC mission teams to Guatemala saw the need for a scholarship program to help young students in the District of Quiché afford a Christian education. These annual scholarships, funded by RPC members and friends, cover tuition, books, and materials for a full school year, giving students a chance for a brighter future.

Scholarship Support covers one year of Christian school tuition, at $350 per student.

Thanks to generous support, the RPC Guatemala scholarship program has grown from helping one student in 2001 to 219 in 2025. It is our prayer that you will join us in this effort of communities in Guatemala!

Cost
Dinner is $130 for the 1st child and $120 for each additional family member. This covers all 13 meals. Parents/Volunteers may also register themselves if they would like to eat dinner each week.

Children in nursery care (2 and under) dinner is free.

There is a $10 activity fee charge for each child attending onCore with no dinner.

*Families may choose to pay week-to-week for dinner. Dinner reservations must be made the Sunday before. A menu will be sent out prior to when reservations need to be made. The cost of an individual dinner is $10/person.

Volunteering
The participation of parents/guardians is critical to the success of onCore. We require at least one adult from each family participating in onCore to volunteer with the program. This not only provides the necessary staffing, but it also demonstrates the parents’ belief in the importance of Christian nurture.

One parent or guardian must remain on campus at all times while their child or children are participating in the onCore program, even if the parent's volunteer shift has already been completed earlier in the evening.

Childcare
Childcare is available for younger siblings under the age of 3 from 5:00-6:45 pm while the parent volunteers, and 3-year olds from 6:00-6:45 pm.

Choir/Bible only: You are also welcome to bring your child after dinner at 5:30 to join us for Bible and/or choir time. There is a $10 charge for each child attending onCore with no dinner.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER: Rev. Christin Norman

Rev. Christin Norman is a child of Roswell Presbyterian Church and a proud graduate of RPC Preschool (Class of ‘91). She gives thanks to God for the incredible support she has received from her home church over the past four decades. Christin currently serves as Chaplain at Presbyterian Village Athens. She has filled the role since the opening day (February 1, 2021) of this large and brand new senior retirement campus with over 430 residents and 250+ staff.  Chaplain Christin is currently enrolled in her fourth CPE unit and has enjoyed serving as a chaplain in a hospital setting, as well as in a mission of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta that serves persons living with severe mental illness, and in L’Arche communities that serve people with developmental disabilities (Atlanta, Georgia and Dublin, Ireland). Since ordination in 2009, Rev. Norman has led parishes in various roles: head of staff pastor, interim associate pastor, and director of family ministries. Rev. Norman is married to Will Norman who is also a PCUSA minister. They have two children: Jack (8) and Remy (4) who are the apples of both their parents’ and grandparents’ eyes.  Jack got to attend RPC’s Vacation Bible School last summer thanks to his “GiGi” - Carol Johnson. When not at work, Christin enjoys impromptu dance parties with her family in the kitchen and boxing to try to be like her dad - Ron Johnson (who has served at RPC as an elder a few times). She is thrilled to spend time with you all at the RPC Women’s Retreat!

Their website is www.brasstownvalley.com.
It is about a 2 hour drive from RPC.

What to Expect at the Retreat
We are often asked this question by first-time attendees. Our typical agenda is as follows:

Friday
(Optional)
Guys that arrive early like to gather at Brassies for dinner, which is downstairs from the hotel’s check-in desk. The cost for dinner will be on your own. After dinner, many of the guys like to hang out at the Azalea cabin (an on-site cabin that we have reserved) for fellowship and to watch college basketball tournament games. Most guys like to arrive on Friday to participate in Friday evening fellowship.

Saturday

We start the morning with the hotel’s awesome breakfast buffet. We have our first retreat session starting at 9 am, typically lasting until 11:30. Box lunches will be available immediately after the morning session. Saturday afternoon is set aside for activities (golf, hiking, shotgun shooting, mountain biking or free time). We reconvene around 6 pm for our second retreat session, followed by a delicious prime rib buffet. Fellowship at the Azalea cabin follows dinner. All Saturday meals are included in your registration fee.

Sunday

The morning starts with another round at the hotel’s breakfast buffet (included in your registration fee). We then have our third retreat session, followed by Worship and Communion. The retreat ends before noon, after Worship.

Should You Need Financial Assistance
Financial assistance is available if needed. Please contact Rev. Ryan Jensen (ryan@roswellpres.org)  for more information regarding financial assistance. We do not want price to be a limiting factor in your decision to attend. Funds are available to assist in the cost if needed.
