Recommendations for Community Group Time

Facilitation: The host and/or facilitator of the group does not have the “right” answers. The facilitator is responsible for gathering and welcoming people and then convening the conversation around that week’s Scripture passage and questions. Don’t expect the facilitator to have all the answers – they are discussion participants searching for answers too!

Preparation: If possible, all study participants should try to read the week’s Scripture passage and reflect on the questions provided in the study guide before the group meeting. However, this is not required.

Participation: Some of us are talkers and will need to refrain from dominating the conversation and try to create space for others to participate. Others of us are quiet and will need to take a risk and speak up. Hopefully, everyone will get a chance to share and learn from one another each week.

Purpose: I’ve heard it said that Christianity is really one beggar showing another beggar where to find bread. Our goal for our time together is to realize our common hunger as we allow ourselves to be filled by the God who is revealed in Jesus Christ. Don’t worry if your group doesn’t get through all of the questions, or intentionally skips some questions. It is important to keep the broader purpose of the study in mind.
