RPC is excited to welcome Rev. Jeff Meyers as our Senior Pastor!
A New Year's Message from Rev. Jeff Meyers, RPC's new Senior Pastor
Dear Roswell Presbyterian Church,
I am deeply honored to be called to be your next senior pastor!
Over the past ten years I have received many phone calls and requests asking if I would be interested in applying for a church's open position. None of these requests ever seemed to be quite the right fit. Yet, when Roswell Presbyterian's PNC called, my heart leapt. I thought to myself, now this is a congregation that I could be called to serve. Over the next several months, this initial excitement was confirmed in many ways.
I have heard it said that a cord of three strands cannot be broken and the cord of my call to RPC came through three distinct confirmations:
First, in my first conversation about the position, a longtime, dear friend of Lane's met with me to discuss the opportunity. He informed me that Lane's model for preaching came from a pastor from a Presbyterian Church in Seattle, Washington. I asked what this pastor's name was. My mouth almost dropped to the floor when he revealed that this pastor was the same person who had been my pastor in college. In fact, the pastor was one of the key people who had persuaded me to become Presbyterian and go to seminary!
Second, I believe that faith in Jesus Christ is lived out tangibly in the world through acts of love and service. A brief glance at the RPC website confirmed that your community loves to serve. From children's and youth ministry, to trips to Kenya, Habitat for Humanity to refugee resettlement, RPC is clearly a place where people are not afraid to get their hands dirty. I look forward to joining you in these ministries.
The third strand in my call was confirmed by the gifted pastors who already serve at RPC. The connectional nature of our denomination has allowed me to know and serve with your pastors for many years. Lyndsay served on the Committee on Preparation for Ministry that confirmed my call to ministry (you can blame her!); Bill worked at the Presbytery office balancing budgets and ministry needs; I had talked with Mary during the infancy stages of The Mustard Seed Project; and Emily's reputation came to us through her cousin who happens to be a good friend of my wife, Courtney. It's a small, but impactful Presbyterian world!
I can't imagine a better place for Courtney and me as we begin a new journey in our life. Serving a congregation like RPC is a daunting call - but one that I receive with joy, hope, and most of all, love. I hope that God will fill you with hope as I join you in entering the next phase of Roswell Presbyterian Church's history.
Over the next month before I arrive, know that I echo the words of the apostle Paul who wrote, "I thank God every time I remember you." I can't wait to meet you in person!
With joyful anticipation,
**Jeff will start at RPC on Monday, January 30, 2017 and preach on Sunday, February 5 at all three services.
There will be a Welcome Reception for Jeff and Courtney on Sunday, February 5 in Alderman Hall after the 11:15 a.m. worship service.
An Advent Message from Rev. Jeff Meyers
Dear Roswell Presbyterian Church,
Happy Advent greetings to you!
Every year, Advent is a season marked with waiting and anticipation. In my life, and maybe in yours, this year's Advent season has brought a whole new meaning to those words. I truly feel like a kid at Christmas as I wait to become your next senior pastor.
I am deeply humbled and honored to be called to serve you and your community. I have been a fan of RPC's pastors, staff, congregation, and the ministries you have undertaken for many years. My wife Courtney and I look forward to serving alongside you and carrying on the legacy of the saints who have gone before. It is an audacious calling and one that we can only accomplish with God's help, serving together. I look forward to walking beside you.
Please join me in prayerful anticipation as we wait to see what God will do through us in the next step of RPC's journey. And please know: I can't wait to meet you soon!
With joyful anticipation,
We are overjoyed to announce that at the called Congregational Meeting on Sunday, November 20, 2016, the members of Roswell Presbyterian Church voted to call the Reverend Jeffrey "Jeff" J. Meyers as our new Senior Pastor. This vote confirmed the unanimous recommendation of your Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC).
Jeff is currently serving as Teaching Pastor at North Avenue Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, where he has served for over ten years. We believe God is calling Jeff to RPC because his gifts fit the needs of our congregation.
Briefly, Jeff is:
- a Christ-centered pastor whose love for God resonates through his life and his sermons
- a gifted preacher who shares Biblical truths and weaves in stories and humor to create engaging messages that impact our daily lives
- a strong leader who effectively manages a wide variety of ministries and viewpoints and casts a vision for the future
- a dynamic teacher who inspires people to a deeper level of discipleship
- an energetic and approachable pastor who connects with people of all generations
Jeff will be transitioning out of his role at North Avenue, and we anticipate him starting at RPC on Monday, January 30, 2017. His first Sunday to preach at RPC is scheduled for February 5, 2017.
The PDF of the brochure provides additional information about Jeff and his wife Courtney.
We ask you to remain in prayer for the RPC congregation, Session, and staff. We also ask that you pray for Jeff and Courtney, as well as North Avenue Presbyterian Church during this time of transition.
We are extremely excited about this next chapter in the story of Roswell Presbyterian Church and are anxious for the entire congregation to get to know Jeff.
You can listen to and download Jeff's presentation from the March 6, 2016 First Class Sundays, Preparing Your Child for Graduation.
