The Waiting Room

And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. - Romans 5:3-5 (NIV)
Waiting is a part of life. It seems that almost everything we do has some waiting involved - whether it's waiting in line at the grocery store, waiting in traffic, waiting on a phone call, or simply waiting for a special vacation.
Experts say that stress often takes a toll on our physical health. If you are in a hurry, the above mentioned situations can be stressful. However, life often gives us those more stressful instances, such as waiting on test results (medical or otherwise), waiting for a loved one to return safely from a war, or the anxious anticipation of the birth of a baby.
As we enter this Advent season, we need to turn our focus on the one special baby born in Bethlehem many years ago - the baby who changed life as it was and continues to be as we strive to live our lives in accordance with His teachings.
May we enjoy this upcoming season with less stress and more confidence in knowing that the Baby Jesus came to show us that love overcomes evil, that God loves all of us and forgives our many sins, and, most importantly, assures us of eternal life. What a time to celebrate!
We are told that our Savior will return one day - when, we do not know. But, as author Philip Yancey has said, "Waiting tries our faith, and so we wait in hope."
Heavenly Father, we thank you for sending your Son to show us perfect love that overcomes the world. As we wait for His coming, let us wait in hope through the power of your Spirit. In Jesus' name. Amen.
