The Waiting Room

I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope. - Psalm 130:5 (NRSV)
The waiting room... a scary, sterile and unfriendly place... especially in a hospital. I have been married to my husband Chris for 20 years, and I am sure God sent him for me to walk through life beside. When he broke his ankle and had to have three steel plates and a lot of screws to put it back together, I was scared. Chris had never had surgery in his life. I was trapped in a waiting room considering all the possible outcomes, but I wasn't alone. I had my church family surrounding me that morning, and it brought me unspeakable peace and comfort.
At North Fulton Hospital, everywhere I looked there were RPC people. The volunteer greeter at the desk, an RPC member. The volunteer that took us to the surgery prep room, an RPC member. Then, once Chris went back to surgery and I had to go back to the waiting room, there were Robin Singleton and Rev. Brad Clayton. They prayed with me and gave me peace just by sitting next to me in that place.
Sometimes waiting is uncomfortable, but at the end of the waiting your faith can be strengthened.
Lord, thank you for giving us a family of faith to walk with us when we must wait. Amen.
