The Waiting Room
Friday, December 22

Do not fret... Trust in the Lord... Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act... Be still before the Lord, and wait patiently for him... - Psalm 37 (NRSV)
The phone call came without warning. "There is something on the MRI that needs to be looked at. You need to be at Northside Hospital three weeks from today for tests and the following week for another specialist to perform more tests." This would be the second MRI. The first specialist saw no need for concern at that time. To protect myself, my brain put this information in the file cabinet in my mind not to be thought of again, until...
But why must I wait three weeks, with another week of waiting? This is difficult for anyone, however, for a Type A personality waiting can be insufferable, and an eternity, which I didn't choose to think about.
Then the words of my dear friend, Claudia Walker, came to mind: "Connie, Psalm 37." She prayed with and for me and urged me to trust in God.
The words mean more to me than ever:
- Do not fret;
- Trust in the Lord;
- Commit your way to the Lord;
- Be still before the Lord, and wait patiently for Him.
Over the next month waiting for any answers, Psalm 37 became my prayer.
The waiting is over for this year. Next June, more tests and more waiting. More time to trust in the Lord.
Gracious and loving God, fill me with your spirit to wait patiently, to not fret, and to trust you in all things for I know that you love me more than I can imagine and that your plan for me is perfect. I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
