"What are you 'giving up' for Lent?"
Thursday, March 17

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy we have been born into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. - 1 Peter 1:3
Traditionally during this season many Christians practice some type of self-denial; or perhaps, we engage in charitable works or charitable giving.
Regardless of what we may deny ourselves or give to others, our purpose is the same: we are "giving up" our preoccupation with ourselves and our worldly desires and concerns. We do this in order to focus on Repentance and Preparation to receive the Gift of Salvation - purchased with Christ's blood and embodied in the Resurrection at Easter.
But, as we turn our attention to spiritual preparation, let's also remember the one thing we absolutely CAN'T give up: HOPE! Despite our inevitable trials and shortcomings, we can take comfort in the "living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ" that we will enter the heavenly Kingdom of God pure and blameless.
Father, we look to you for guidance as we journey through this season of repentance and preparation. Open our hearts that we may know Hope and Peace through Jesus Christ. Amen
