Fear not! For I am with you! - Isaiah 41:10
Dealing with fear is a daily struggle for me. I fear that I will forget God when my family's enormous amount of activities and commitments rob me of precious quiet moments. I fear for the safety of my boys in a world where terror is a common word. I fear that I will not live up to what is expected of me. I fear for my health and the health of family members who suffer from sickness and addiction. And while these are valid fears, Jesus shows me how to be courageous even in the face of death.
Bit Dillon, my most cherished Bible teacher, gave me the gift of scripture when I was a teenager. When I dealt with the death of my grandfather and the death of my parents' marriage, she encouraged me to Fear not! For God is with me! In the face of fearful times, she pointed me to the unfathomable reality that God is always with me... no matter how busy my life, no matter how many acts of terrorism, no matter how many times I fail, no matter how desperate the situation seems. He is always there. And that give me courage.
Heavenly Father, thank you for showing me true courage. Amen
