Journey to the Cross

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus! In God's great mercy God has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade - kept in Heaven for you. - 1 Peter 1:3
As Easter approaches, we remember those times from our childhood, when Easter held a different meaning. We had our visits to the Easter Bunny, egg hunts, dying eggs the old-fashioned way with vinegar and water and a wax crayon. No fancy glitter or swirls. In my family, we dressed up for church on Easter Sunday in a special dress (or suit) and hat, wore a corsage, and always wore the white gloves. A family dinner with ham capped off the day. Our school lunch pails held hard boiled eggs each day until all were gone!
As we grew older, Easter had a different meaning. We now have a full grasp of what it is all about. We are celebrating the life and Resurrection of Jesus the Christ, the fully human yet Divine being that suffered and died in order that we may be saved of our sins and reside in "the Holy City, the new Jerusalem" with him. He felt joy, sorrow, pain, disappointment, all the same human feelings that we have. And yet, he was without sin - he did the "right thing" all the time, setting an example for us.
Dear Heavenly Father, please let us see this Lenten period and this booklet to reflect and appreciate all that you have done for us, through your Son Jesus Christ. Amen
