Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or stow away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? - Matthew 6:26-27
How many of you have ever experienced worry? I certainly have. With the 24/7 news reports letting us know of all the bad things going on in this world it can be hard not to worry. Jesus has a different take on worry. He tells us to look at our surroundings for evidence that we have a Father that cares for us.
It makes sense when you think about it. Consider the birds all around us and consider the details that God took in creating them. Their wings, eyes, even the sounds they make. They are all created for a purpose. Think of all the detail and planning that went into creating them. Now think of how God has created us in his image and what all that took. Surely God would never create a being that he had no intention of taking care of!
I have always found great comfort in these words. Yes, bad things will happen and will continue to happen. Yet when worries and anxieties plague us we can always look outside and be reminded that this is still God's world.
Lord, help us to remember that this is still your world and that you are in control. Amen
