"How has your life changed since you became a Christian?" I was caught off guard recently when someone I had just met asked me this question. I admit I had to think about it. Ask me my testimony and it rolls off my tongue, but how have I been since? I was surprised that I couldn't immediately answer. "Of course my life is different!" I wanted to shout. But how, exactly? Then the words fell into my mouth. "Free, I am free." Yes, I have found freedom through Jesus. It is written, "There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death." Romans 8:1-2

I've heard that verse hundreds of times, but for the first time I listened. God gave up his Son to die on a cross so that I may have a life free from the law of sin and death. If God has not condemned me, then what power does the world have over me? The world says we must act a certain way, live a certain way, raise children a certain way. But my Lord has freed me from the ways of the world. I am free to follow the path He has laid for me. My path may be different from yours, but as a Christian, I am free to celebrate you on your journey and not carry the baggage of judgment that comes from a worldly view.

Freedom in Christ also gives peace of mind. There are many things I do not understand in the Bible nor can I defend every verse. I cannot rationalize the Creation story with the fossil record, but it does not shake my faith. I have peace that God knows the answer and He is, after all, in charge. I am free to live without fear of the unknown, for He knows all and I am His.
