IPNC Update - Week of May 3, 2015

To the Congregation of Roswell Presbyterian Church,

I want to take a moment to provide you with an update on the work that has been done and the progress that has been made by the Interim Pastor Nominating Committee (IPNC) following the resignation of our Senior Pastor, Dr. Lane Alderman. To give you all a bit of background, when Lane announced his resignation as a result of his compromised health, the formation of the IPNC was one of the first tasks that was accomplished by Session. The IPNC is made up of six active Elders on Session, three from the Personnel Committee and three other elders representing other ministries in the church. Those elders are:

Brandon Smith, Chair (Personnel Committee)
Bill Powell (Personnel Committee)
Sara Heslin (Personnel Committee)
Peter Scott (Worship Council)
Carol Fowler (Mission Outreach Council)
Tricia Patterson (Discipleship Council - Children's Ministry)

In addition, Rev. Lyndsay Slocum is an "ex officio" member of the committee representing the invaluable views and perspectives of the clergy and staff. Over the past month, the IPNC has been busily at work. During that time, we have accomplished the following:

  • Identified the key traits and competencies that we as a church and congregation are seeking from an interim leader during the next season of life at RPC.
  • Coordinated with Presbytery to begin the search process for an interim taking full advantage of the guidance, wisdom and resources available.
  • Written, posted and taken "live" a Ministry Information Form (similar to a job posting) on the Church Leadership Connection site - the online call system for Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
  • Currently, we are actively meeting and vetting possible candidates.

While we are grieving the sudden departure of Lane, we are also excited for the next chapter and season that lies ahead for us as a vibrant congregation and healthy church. With God's guidance, we know that the right leader will be with us shortly. Until then, we are actively seeking to discern God's call through prayer and our work as a committee.

As Chair of the IPNC, I will be communicating with you as activity begins to unfold. Until then, know that we are busy at work. If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to ask myself or any other member of the IPNC.

In Faith,
Brandon M. Smith
