(Im)patiently Waiting
Sunday, December 17 - 3rd Sunday of Advent

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. - Philippians 4:6 (NIV)

Have you ever felt in limbo at work, when you are unhappy in your job, and you're waiting? For what you aren't quite sure? A pie-in-the-sky position to drop in your lap, or an airmail message from God, telling you exactly what it is He wants you to do now? After waiting for much of 2015 for guidance in my career, I got out of my own way and took a leap of faith. It wasn't the answer I thought I was praying for. Little did I know that I would be faced with more moments of waiting and many more conversations with God as I navigated through this new opportunity.

As it was, the journey was one of two steps forward, one step back, and filled with many seemingly insurmountable obstacles. What I know to be true is that God was teaching me patience, faithfulness, and trust, through periods of waiting for His work, not mine, to be accomplished. What He repeatedly showed me was that when I moved out of the way and waited for God to move mountains, He revealed himself to me, often through other people, and in His perfect timing. What a heavy burden lifted from my shoulders when I leaned on Philippians 4:6 during those harried times!

The position that I was offered was to develop The Drake House program, with little budget, staff, or resources. I quickly realized that I had everything I needed, with God by my side and an incredible community ready to give. This journey continues today, as needs present themselves through the families we serve. God reliably answers prayers and connects to our mission people who have the skills, provisions, or resources needed. He is a constant source of support and peace, as He continues to teach me patience and faithfulness while I wait.

Dear Heavenly Father, how grateful we are for your wisdom and patience with us as we learn to wait on you for your divine will for our lives. Amen.
