Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths. - Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)
When I had lost all hope, I turned my thoughts once more to the LORD. - Jonah 2:7a (NLT)
I think back to the time in my life when I was a single, divorced woman, wondering if I would ever be married again. God had blessed me with three beautiful children and five grandchildren, many loving friends and a rewarding career, but still I felt something was missing. The dating scene left me questioning whether I would ever find that special man with whom to share my life. Instead of focusing on God and His direction for my life, I was caught up in my own desires and thoughts about what brings true happiness.
One night, shortly before I fell in love with that certain special man, I literally cried out to God, telling Him that if His plan was for me to be single the rest of my life, I would be fine because He had blessed me with family, friends, etc., to make me happy. If, however, His plan included a kind, Christian man, it would be nice if he were also a "music man!" Well, God works in mysterious ways. He blessed me with both! He taught me how amazing life can become if we give up the desires of our hearts and focus on Him instead of ourselves.
Father God, please help me to discipline my mind and keep my focus on You. Help me to remember those times when I can clearly see Your hand in my life. Thank you, Lord, for Your love and peace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
