Now it is required that those who have been given a trust move prove faithful. - 1 Corinthians 4:2
From Christmastide to Eastertide, I find it easy to focus on the elements of these seasons, seeing God and His greatest gift to humankind - His Son, Jesus Christ. I'm certainly guilty of calling both of these my favorite seasons. It's a time of beautiful music, a time of giving, a time of sharing, a time of witness, a time of meditation; as well, it's a time of reflection.
I grew up in the 1950-60s, and my parents were incredible role models of faith in God, work ethics, giving and tithing, and standing by your word. No matter what your talents might be, you were to use them to the Glory of God. While at a younger age I felt I was blessed with many gifts, I didn't realize all of them; and the more I grew and matured as a Christian, I understood that these talents are blessings from God.
One of these blessings is my love of music, and it has been everlasting - all types of music: classical, sacred, gospel, and country. My gift of voice has also been in relationship building and service to others which completes me! Whether a musician, a teacher, a realtor, or running an insurance business - God has given me an ability to have vision, to lead, to organize, to help, and to serve others! Webster's definition of "service" is "help given to others," and with God's help, I can use these talents to make this planet a little bit better that I found it.
During this season of Lent, as I evaluate my gifts, I ask God to help me witness with my time, my talents, and my treasures to help and serve others. My prayer for you is to find your passion in your gifts and to find ways to use them.
Dear Lord, help each of us to use the gifts You have graciously given us today for your glory. Amen.
