Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace that transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6
The peace that Paul is talking about is a peace that I cannot put into words, one that I have experienced, but cannot explain. It is a peace that surpasses all understanding. But most importantly, it is the feeling that surrounds me when I celebrate my savior's birth every year.
However, it is so difficult for me to experience this peace leading up to the birth of Christ. During this season, I remain fearful that I will not be spiritually prepared to celebrate the birth of my savior, that I will not have enough to offer spiritually to my Lord and to others around me. Nonetheless, I often find it easy to fill my time with frivolous to do lists while my heart remains anxious about the birth of my savior. In these moments of anxiety, I need to turn my heart to the Lord and ask him to provide peace that transcends all understanding as I prepare myself to celebrate the birth of our savior.
Dear Lord, may the Lord provide us peace as we prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of our savior during this Advent season. Amen
