And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. - Luke 2:10
Reflections from the Joys of many Advent seasons past will always fill my heart and soul with the spirit of Christmas.
From the early Christmases, as a small child wrapped in the warmth of families, friends, and firesides, Joy was the emotion that accompanied the anticipation of the coming of the Christ Child. The church services, the choir, the caroling, the Joy of the music of the season, all contributed toward that quickening of the heart that was every bit as glorious as the herald angels' announcement of the big event soon to take place.
The middle years of learning that giving in love is the best way to honor the birth of Jesus Christ. The teaching of children, the singing of songs, the happiness of being a member of a church choir and being able to sing of all the wonderful parts of the Advent season taking place... these are the Joys of Christmas that remain throughout the years. All these things are why Christmas means Joy to me above all other things. Faith and Hope and Love will follow, but Joy always represents Christmas to me.
Holy God, may the birth of your son bring new joys to all who ponder it. Amen
