Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. - Luke 2:10
During this time of Advent, where we await the birth of our Savior, "joy" is the word that encompasses the spirit of the season. The coming of Christ is a time for celebration and joyful noise, and we should rejoice in knowing that because of the gift of Jesus to the world, we are delivered from sin. As Christians, we can take comfort in the reality that our Lord has come into this world, despite the evil and sorrow that exists, to share the word of the Father and take the fall for our misdoings.
In the Christmas story, an angel of the Lord appears to the shepherds watching over their flock by night, and there were scared. In Luke 2:10-11, which reads, And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord," we learn that God wants us not to fear the coming of Christ, but to take delight in His son's birth. The "great joy" that has been delivered to us calls for glorification. The birth of Jesus was the beginning of a life abundant with miracles and our salvation. A God that would grant us such a blessing truly is a God worth serving.
Holy God, during this season of Advent, prepare our hearts to receive the joy that comes with the birth of our Savior and to devotedly celebrate the Christ child who is worthy of our praise. Amen
