Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:6
Before we even get into scripture, let's think about what peace means. Yes, I know we all know what it is, but I want you to think of a place or a time when you were truly in peace. Ok, got it? While we read scripture, I would love for your mind to be in that place or at that time. Reading scripture in a calm and peaceful way allows you to see its meaning with a fresh perspective.
Right away its says, "Do not be anxious..." It then explains prayer and petition are the two factors to help reduce that anxiousness. So when you're anxious about something, it says to present your requests to God. He wants you to come to him with needs and requests! He loves to see us go to him first and not our friends or family. He does not want us to transfer some of our anxiousness to those who would normally help us. Go to God first, in patience and peace, so that He may work through those around you. God is and always will be there for you.
In the second portion of scripture, it states, "And the peace of God..." God will guard our hearts and minds because he transcends all understanding. This is because He provides peace. We will not be able to do anything at our fullest if we are not at peace first. Let's pray with this in mind.
Dear Lord, we thank You for all that You do for us each day. We thank You for the wisdom You give us to understand the peace we all need. Lord, we request that You help us realize the anxiousness we have each day. Help us to turn to You for peace before anyone or anything else. Amen
