Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. About three o'clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, "It's a ghost!"
But Jesus spoke to them at once. "Don't be afraid," he said. "Take courage. I am here!"
Then Peter called to him, "Lord, if it's really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water."
"Yes, come," Jesus said.
So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. "Save me, Lord!" he shouted.
Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. "You have so little faith," Jesus said. "Why did you doubt me?"
When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. Then the disciples worshiped him. "You really are the Son of God!' they exclaimed. - Matthew 14:24-32
There are so many times we are in trouble, far from land, fighting the wind and the waves. We pray that when our Pastors and Staff are worn out from battling the storms, Lord, that they would see you. When you appear on the shore, God, let them know it immediately; let them hear your call to "take courage". And God, grant them courage. Like Peter, give them the willingness to step out of the boat, and even if they may begin to sink, reach out, Lord. We know you always do. Give them faith in your power to calm the storms, Lord, and a peace that you will do it.
Lord, we know our PNC members must feel they have weathered quite a storm in their Pastor search process. Help them to see you through the crashing waves; help them to see you with your arms outstretched to them. We pray they would hear your words of encouragement and they would be able to see your divine power in the process. We pray for their courage, Lord. Help them to step out in faith in their belief even when they may be afraid to do so. Let them be assured that no matter the storm they face, you are there.
