30-Day Prayer Devotional for RPC - Day 23

Day 23

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. - 1 Timothy 2:1-2 (NLT)

Dear God,

Today our nation heads to the polls to select the leaders of our state, local, and national governments. Lord, we pray for all who have come forward to lead, and we pray for those who will be chosen for office. We pray that whomever is elected will lead in a way that reflects wisdom, justice, compassion, and courage so that as citizens, we may lead "quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity".

Likewise, we pray for the leadership of this church. We pray for our Pastors, Staff, and Elders that they may act in all of their decisions with discernment and knowledge of you. We pray that their motivation would be in furthering your kingdom only and not for selfish or personal gains. Grant our church leaders wisdom like Solomon's, an ability to see creative solutions, and compassion for those who need their help. We pray that the choices they make would be thoughtful and sound so that as a congregation we need only focus on your work that is set before us.

We pray, too, for our Pastor Nominating Committee, and give thanks for their recent announcement of a pending Candidate for RPC's Senior Pastor. We continue to pray for their continued success; that all of the hiring details would be ironed out as they need to be and that you would continue to show your handiwork to them in this process. We pray for our Candidate, dear God. Give him or her a heart for Roswell Presbyterian Church and its long history of being a beacon on the hill in this community and the world. Give him or her a heart for the people here, from our newest baby Christians to our longest-serving member, help them to come to know and love each of us. Fill him or her with excitement to all that lies ahead, and fill us with joy also as we look ahead to the future - our future in serving you as your people and as members of Roswell Presbyterian Church.

We pray all of these things in the name of your son, Jesus Christ, AMEN.
