A Letter to the Congregation announcing RPC's new Senior Pastor
Sunday, November 20, 2016

To our RPC faith family,

We are overjoyed to announce that at the called Congregational Meeting earlier this afternoon, the members of Roswell Presbyterian Church voted to call the Reverend Jeffrey "Jeff" J. Meyers as our new Senior Pastor. This vote confirmed the unanimous recommendation of your Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC).

Jeff is currently serving as Teaching Pastor at North Avenue Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, where he has served for over ten years. We believe God is calling Jeff to RPC because his gifts fit the needs of our congregation. Briefly, Jeff is:

  • a Christ-centered pastor whose love for God resonates through his life and his sermons
  • a gifted preacher who shares Biblical truths and weaves in stories and humor to create engaging messages that impact our daily lives
  • a strong leader who effectively manages a wide variety of ministries and viewpoints and casts a vision for the future
  • a dynamic teacher who inspires people to a deeper level of discipleship
  • an energetic and approachable pastor who connects with people of all generations

Jeff will be transitioning out of his role at North Avenue, and we anticipate him starting at RPC on Monday, January 30, 2017. His first Sunday to preach at RPC is scheduled for February 5, 2017.

The PDF of the brochure provides additional information about Jeff and his wife Courtney.

We ask you to remain in prayer for the RPC congregation, Session, and staff. We also ask that you pray for Jeff and Courtney, as well as North Avenue Presbyterian Church during this time of transition.

We are extremely excited about this next chapter in the story of Roswell Presbyterian Church and are anxious for the entire congregation to get to know Jeff as we have over the last few months.

In Christ,

PNC Update - November 9, 2016

As was shared from the pulpit on Sunday, November 6, the Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) is pleased to announce that we have unanimously approved a candidate for nomination as RPC's next Senior Pastor.

The PNC reviewed over 150 pastors over the last ten months and considered many criteria in the evaluation process. We focused particularly on skills identified in the Congregation Assessment Tool (CAT) and feedback from the Listening Sessions. We heard overwhelmingly that our new Senior Pastor should be a strong and faithful preacher who could also lead our talented staff, set a strategic vision for the future of RPC, and establish personal relationships with members of the congregation. Throughout the process, the PNC was in prayer to listen and discern God's will for this church.

With all of that in mind, we believe God guided us to select this particular candidate to nominate as RPC's next Senior Pastor, and we are overjoyed to be at this point in the process with all of you.

A Congregational Meeting will be held immediately following the 11:15 a.m. worship service on Sunday, November 20, for RPC members to vote in response to the PNC's recommended candidate.

While the announcement of this meeting has created an interest in learning the name and details of the candidate, Presbyterian polity recommends we do not release the candidate's information prior to the meeting on November 20. The candidate is currently serving at another PC(USA) church, and we want to protect the confidentiality of this process.

Therefore, at the Congregational Meeting following the 11:15 a.m. worship service, we will distribute two items to the congregation. Those items will be voting ballots and an informational brochure, which will provide details about the candidate including the pastor's name, background, photos, and beyond. At the appropriate time during the Congregational Meeting, any active, confirmed member of Roswell Presbyterian Church is invited to submit a vote using the provided ballots. The ballots will be collected and counted immediately, so that the results can be announced to the congregation as part of the meeting.

We realize this a lot more detail than our typical email, but we wanted to make sure everyone was informed about all the steps and procedures involved.

Our committee is grateful for the support of the staff, Session, and congregation. We look forward to presenting our candidate for approval at the Congregational Meeting on Sunday, November 20.

In Christ,

George Dunaway and Lori Howell

PNC Update - October 17, 2016

In this season of gratitude and generosity, the Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) would like to express its appreciation to the congregation, Session, and staff of RPC.

We are so grateful to receive your prayers, referrals, and words of encouragement as we work and listen to discern God's plan for our next Senior Pastor. At this stage, we have narrowed our search and feel we have an amazing list of candidates that we are actively evaluating.

We know this selection process is a spiritual one, not just a logistical or hiring one. As part of that, each day at 7:30 a.m., our committee members set aside our morning routines and lift up prayers for our church, for the next steps before our committee, and for the person (whomever that is) who will be RPC's next Senior Pastor.

If you are able, we invite you to take a moment, wherever you are, at that same time each day and pray for God's continued blessings, guidance, and grace for our congregation and our committee.

We don't have to look far to find amazing ways God is working through the life and people of our church. It fills our hearts with gratitude and offers us wonderful encouragement as we continue on this journey towards a new chapter for RPC.

30-Day Prayer Devotional for Roswell Presbyterian Church

God's timing is so good! While the PNC was planning to invite the congregation into a time of daily prayer, a separate RPC group was creating a 30-day prayer devotional for our church family. You are invited to use it as a resource for daily prayer.

The daily devotion and prayer will be posted to the Roswell Pres blog and you can also sign-up to receive this information via text message, text @rpcpray to 81010 or sign-up online.

PNC Update - September 8, 2016

Your Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) remains hard at work in our search for RPC's next Senior Pastor.

Over the last two months, the pace of our activity has picked up substantially. We are very pleased with the number and quality of referrals we received from the congregation and others, as well as those candidates who self referred.

The PNC has looked at more than 150 candidates at this point, and we are narrowing the list down to a much smaller group for further research. We are at various stages with different candidates.

With some, we have started outreach and initial connection conversations. Others are still submitting Pastor Information Forms (PIFs) and inquiries to the committee. Rest assured, there are many strong candidates in the mix.

It has been such a privilege to be in contact with pastors from around the country. We are so encouraged by the glimpses we are getting into God's amazing work through different pastors and churches near and far.

Our committee continues to meet weekly, and we are confident and grateful that God is leading us in this search. To learn more about the steps and processes involved in finding our next Senior Pastor, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.

We ask for your continued prayers and support, and we will be in touch soon with any updates.

PNC Update - July 14, 2016

Our last update shared the news that we had posted the job description (called a Ministry Information Form or MIF) nationally and would soon begin receiving responses.

We are excited to tell you we have received a multitude of names and Pastoral Information Forms (PIFs), which is the term to describe interested candidates' resumes. We are meeting weekly and also working during the week to review those forms and narrow them down to a list of potential candidates.

If you know of a pastor that would be a good fit to serve as RPC's next Senior Pastor, please email the PNC Co-Chairs directly at today. It could be someone who served at your previous church or even someone locally whom you have heard preach. By sharing his/her name and information with us now, you can help ensure he/she is part of our candidate review process.

We are grateful for your continued involvement along the way. Your participation in the Congregation Assessment Tool (CAT) survey and the Listening Sessions, as well as your support and your prayers are invaluable to our committee and to this process.

Please continue to check the PNC page ( of the RPC website for the latest details.

We look forward to hearing from you with your referrals and will continue to keep you informed on a regular basis.

PNC Update - May 26, 2016

We are excited to share that the PNC has completed an important step in the process, the creation of a job description called the Ministry Information Form (MIF). The MIF not only describes the experience and competencies required for the role of Senior Pastor but also reflects the heart of RPC and its members. The Presbytery of Greater Atlanta and RPC's Session have now approved the MIF, and the PNC has posted the position nationally.

Watch the video for more details!
