Today, we celebrate the second Sunday of Advent. As we saw last week, the word “advent” comes from the Latin word for “coming.”
In today’s passage, we will explore how John the Baptist waited in the wilderness for Jesus. As various religious groups come to ask John what he’s up to, he simply responds by saying that there is someone greater who comes after him. He insists that he is just “paving the way” for the Messiah. John the Baptist reveals how the Christian life often feels: we are just waiting in the wilderness trying to pave the way for someone to come and complete our work.
The question is: are we just waiting in the wilderness or are we a part of something more?
Waiting with you,
Rev. Jeff Meyers
