As we conclude our summer series on “The Fruit of the Spirit” we come to an area we all wrestle with daily.
As we’ve studied Paul’s admonition to bear fruit for the Kingdom, the area of ‘self-control’ likewise is all about trusting more than trying. Just like the other fruit of the Spirit, “self-control” is simply creating the space and soil for the Spirit of God to grow this much needed character quality. We live in a culture that is awash in messages telling us to “get it more and get it now.” The irony is that less really is more. When you and I yield our desires to the Spirit of God we experience a richer and much more satisfying life than when we try and fill every craving our minds and bodies demand of us.
I pray that each of us this morning create that spiritual soil for the Lord to grow this liberating trait called self-control.
