Really, Jesus? Seven Hard Sayings of Jesus: Not Peace but a Sword? - Sunday, January 4, 2015 - Dr. Lane Alderman
Did Jesus really say that?
And more importantly, what on earth did he mean when he said those words? That’s the question we are asking today and for the next six weeks as we begin this sermon series we’re calling “Really, Jesus?” We’re going to take a look at six challenging statements from Jesus and explore what he was teaching us when he said those words.
Today we’ll begin by exploring what the “Prince of Peace” meant when he said that he came not to bring peace but a sword. Those words just don’t seem to fit with the character of Jesus, but there they are… right in the middle of the gospel of Matthew!
Also today, we will begin the new year by gathering around our Lord’s table. As we begin this new year, we will have the opportunity to celebrate God’s love and grace in each of our lives.
I am glad you are with us this morning, and I pray this will be a time for each of us to be renewed in our walk with our Lord! May God bless us all.
