Today's scripture, Psalm 133, is from a series known as the "Psalms of Ascents." They are to be sung as the people approach the tabernacle or the Temple for any religious festival. At that time, the streets would be filled with the chanting and singing of Psalms 120-134.
Psalm 133 unites the "kindred" with a visual image (oil and dew) that celebrates the presence of a loving and gracious God. Words from the song "Get Together" by The Youngbloods, set a similar mood - "Come on people now, Smile on your brother, Everybody get together, Try to love one another right now."
Imagine all of you joining together in the parking lot this morning and singing the Psalms of Ascents, with "Get Together" in the background, as you approached the church doors today. Why not? This is a day and a weekend of celebration -- worship, the Lord's Supper and the anticipation of a national holiday.
Peace and blessings,
