Have you ever fallen asleep on the job or stopped paying attention when you should have been awake and alert? Well, I have, and you’ll hear about one instance in today’s sermon. It is so easy to become lackadaisical and lethargic in life. This happens as much spiritually as it does physically.
Today, we will look at the dangerous traps in life that subtly try to lull us to sleep. We will reflect on a passage where the apostle Paul calls us to pray “at all times.” How can we do this? If we do, does this change our understanding of what counts as prayer? Why is it so important to stay alert spiritually? With the help of Marilynne Robinson, Jonathan Edwards, and, yes, Dumb and Dumber, we will come to see how God desires to be in a constant and loving relationship with us.
