Today's installation service marks a special day in my life and in the life of Roswell Presbyterian Church. Hundreds of hours of interviews, prayer, and discernment culminate in my official installation as RPC's senior pastor. But, today isn't just about me and my role. In fact, today is a reminder of the calling that God has for each of us.
In our Reformed tradition, we do not believe that being a pastor or elder, Sunday school teacher or usher, makes that person any better than anyone else. The role he or she plays indicates a difference in function, but not in status (Ephesians 4:1-16). We are all equal in the eyes of God as his beloved children. However, God calls each of us to respond to his love in different ways. While I may be called to preach and administer the sacraments, others are called to be mothers and fathers, accountants and civil servants, chefs and park rangers. These responses to God's love in Jesus Christ are our vocations.
I hope that today's services might remind each of us how God calls us to follow Jesus in our own unique and special way. I am deeply honored to serve alongside you as one of your Pastors. I look forward to living into the great future that God is calling us to!
Grace and peace,
Rev. Jeff Meyers
