Confessions of a Doubting Music Director - Sunday, May 22, 2016 - Dr. Mark Brewer

One of the questions of life every philosophy or religion has to answer is the question of theodicy. That is simply a theological term meaning the justice of God. The two big questions it seeks to answer are: "Why do the righteous suffer?" and "Why do the wicked prosper?" In other words, what's the use in trying to be good if all I get is pain and suffering? These are questions we all ask. This morning we examine a music leader who had the courage to wonder the same thing in a song.

As we've been studying worship this month, we look at coming to worship when you don't have faith anymore. Does God get upset with that? The answer we find from this marvelous Psalm is the exact opposite! God longs for His children to come to Him when life doesn't make sense. In fact, it is in worship we have the spiritual radar to see what life is really about. I hope we all get a fresh dose of God's reality this morning and see how just, kind, and wonderful our Lord is in a tough world.
