Some of the great theologians of the past have described the "Bethlehem event" as "the deep business of joy". What they meant was that living the life of joy is a serious pursuit. Quite different than the shallow feelings of a mere "party time" attitude, cultivating a life of joy requires openness to what God is doing. As the angels burst into praise celebrating at the birth of the Son of God, we are reminded the whole creation reflects the glory of the Creator. This was no ordinary birth. This was the invasion of joy Himself.
The invitation comes to us this morning to Come And Rejoice no matter how tough life appears. The Lord is busy about creating an experience of the deepest kind of joy for all of us. I pray we boldly embrace the invitation and invest ourselves in this deep business of joy.
