Watch the parading of the United States Revolutionary flags presented by the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR). Members of the Piedmont Chapter, wearing uniforms designed by George Washington, will display 18 replicas of flags that were symbolic of our new country in the 1770s and 1780s. They will explain why flags became such important patriotic symbols and how they came to be designed.

SAR members will also outline Georgia’s strong connections to the war, before and after it resulted in freedom for new Americans on our soil. Georgia was the newest and least populated American colony when the war began, but 42 skirmishes and battles took place here. And after the war, it became the settling place for soldiers from Virginia, as well as North and South Carolina, as veterans were awarded acreage for their service. Sixty-four Georgia counties have been named for individuals who fought for or helped in the Revolution.
