"Teach us to pray, Lord," the request of the disciples of Jesus, is an expression of the yearning we all feel - a desire to be connected with the heart of God. We invite you to consider these the e-votional, by Dr. Lane Alderman, and these three prayer opportunities as vehicles for your conscious awareness of God's presence with you.

Time With God

(Prayer Practices)

As with any relationship, our relationship with God is nurtured by setting aside intentional

Time With God.  This time is often filled with our words - words of petition, thanksgiving, confession,

intercession. It is vital for our relationship with God to take time also to listen to God, to hear God's

"whispers of mercy,  echoes of love".

The links below connect you with the weekly E-votional by Dr. Lane Alderman, "Time With God",

daily scriptures with a prayer guide (5 to 15 minutes), a Table Blessing, and

Intercessory Prayer Request.

Daily Scriptures with Directed Prayer

(five to fifteen minutes)

The prayer practice suggested here is an ancient practice called Lectio Divina, (sacred reading). It dates back to the time of Benedict of Nursia, 5th century, who encouraged his church to devote time to reading the scriptures devotionally, that is, for the purpose of prayerful dialogue with God. It is a prayer practice that begins with a time of silence, opening oneself to the presence of God. The next stage is the slow and prayerful reading of a short scripture. The intent is to allow a word of phrase of the scripture to engage the heart and mind and become the starting point for meditation, dialogue with God, and then a time of restful listening in the presence of God. We invite you to proceed through the stages of prayerful or sacred reading as prompted for each scripture.

Table Blessing
Expressing gratitude for the food on our tables is universal. Here is a suggested table blessing for the month:

May the abundance of this table
Never fail and never be less.
Thanks to the blessings of God,
Who has satisfied our needs.
To Him be the glory forever.
In Jesus’ name.
Amen.
