Details: STAR House (Seeking, Teaching, and Reaching) supports at-risk children by providing after-school
tutoring, school supplies, leadership activities, and recreational programs. STAR House is in its 17th
year of providing services. Volunteer to be a mentor for a STAR House child in elementary, middle, or high school.
Your help is needed.
STAR House students...
- Come to a safe, social environment to have a healthy snack and talk about their day;
- Work on their homework with help from adult and student mentors;
- Do extra educational activities to help them succeed in school;
- Meet community leaders to learn about their jobs, lifestyles and what education can mean to
their own futures;
- Attend summer camp to brush up on their academics, and to learn about their community
and their country
- Build relationships with caring adults to avoid delinquent behaviors.
Students at STAR House are required to attend school, complete homework and participate in class.
Students also follow a code of respectful behavior to prepare them for life.
